Surpass behavioral health hosts autism awareness carnival

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Families in Bowling Green are invited to a free, sensory-friendly celebration aimed at promoting inclusion and raising awareness during Autism Awareness Month.

Surpass Behavioral Health is hosting an Autism Awareness Carnival this Saturday, offering children and families a chance to connect with community resources in a welcoming, accessible environment.

Organizers say the event is designed specifically to support individuals with autism while creating a fun, low-stress space for families to enjoy together.

“This is a sensory-friendly event for members of the community. It’s free. We are having an autism awareness carnival,” said April London, office manager at Surpass Behavioral Health in Bowling Green. “We’re very excited because our local responders are coming.”

First responders will be on site with emergency vehicles, including a fire truck, police car, and EMS unit, giving children the opportunity to explore them up close and become more comfortable with community safety personnel.

The carnival will also feature a variety of interactive activities, including fishing games and a large bowling pin game designed for children of all abilities. Organizers say the goal is to make participation easy and enjoyable for every child.

Among those looking forward to the event is longtime client Beau David, who has been attending services at Surpass Behavioral Health for six years.

He said he is especially excited about meeting first responders.

“Fire trucks and police cars,” he said when asked what he was most looking forward to.

In addition to games and emergency vehicle demonstrations, the Scoops of Joy truck will be on site, with free ice cream cones available for the first 50 attendees.

Organizers say the event is about more than just entertainment—it’s also about connection, support, and inclusion for families in the Bowling Green community.

“We want the families in the community, families with children with autism, to know that we support them,” London said. “This event is to help make them feel supported and provide inclusion.”

The Autism Awareness Carnival will take place Saturday, April 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Surpass Behavioral Health, located at 1048 Ashley Street, Suite 101, in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

The event is free and open to the public.
