South Warren Middle School sets up shelter for tornado victims

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – South Warren Middle School set up a shelter for tornado victims, as well as a donation center to aid those affected by the deadly tornado that hit Bowling Green early Saturday morning.

Warren County Public Schools along with the Red Cross are looking for monetary and blood donations to help assist the community, as many look to rebuild from the damage.

Tens of people came out to Rich Pond to aid with donations.

“We’re a staff of four,” Executive Director of the American Red Cross of South Central Kentucky Jennifer Capps said. “We cover 22 counties. It’s a large area. You know, you prepare for events like this, but you never have enough resources. So, we do have a large number of trained volunteers. But having these community partners come in and fill in the gaps, taking over the big distribution of all of these things that are being donated has been just truly helpful.”

You can drop off any donations at South Warren Middle School. Right now, the shelter is looking for new towels, wash clothes, new underwear, shampoo, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste.
