Simpson County voters anticipating poll results
SIMPSON COUNTY, Ky. – Time is ticking for new elected officials to be announced in Simpson County.
On the ballots, voters have the opportunity to cast their votes for the Franklin mayoral race, Franklin City Commission, the West District magistrate and more statewide positions.
Austin Johnson, the Simpson County clerk, said this is the time citizens can use their voice to shape the future of Simpson County.
“People have fought for your right to vote, all walks of life, so it’s important to get out and let your voice be heard for several different reasons, and, fortunately, Simpson County has been doing a great job so far,” Johnson said.
Multiple people were seen walking in and out of the voting location at First United Methodist Church, like Amanda Atkins, who said she hopes for change in medical affordability in south-central Kentucky.
“I hope to see where we can afford everyday life. Our healthcare is very expensive and not available for those who are in low-income families, who struggle on a daily basis, and being able to have that affordability can leave room for the being able to pay their rent or electricity or their food,” Atkins said.
Some Simpson County residents said they are voting for someone who prepares and preserves the county, one citizen at a time.
“I believe that we need somebody that can make that change. I believe all the citizens here in Franklin can make a big change. We all join and team up and we can all make a big change,” said Candy Weiss, a Franklin resident.
While speaking to voters in Simpson County, they told News 40 that children and their education have been a major priority.
“High school seniors are just getting out of high school, so we’ve seen a lot of young kids get out and vote,”said Austin Johnson, the Simpson County Clerk.
“I’m hoping that our kids have a good education as they are. I’m hoping that it could pull people closer,” Weiss said.
Simpson County chose five voting sites for voters to cast their ballots.
