Simpson County native announces U.S. Senate run

FRANKLIN, Ky.- A Franklin man is hoping to unseat a Kentucky Republican this November for a seat in the United States Senate.
Democrat Jimmy Ausbrooks filed his paperwork Thursday to run for the seat currently held by Sen. Mitch McConnell.
Ausbrooks was born and raised in Simpson County and still resides in his childhood home, according to a biography on his campaign website.
Ausbrooks is a mental health counselor who is a Western Kentucky University graduate.
Prior to becoming a mental health professional, he spent 20 years in sales and customer service, and at one time owned a retail furniture business, Furniture Direct Now.
Ausbrooks is now the sixth Democratic candidate to announce a campaign.
McConnell, as of now, has one Republican primary opponent.
