Road construction on I-165 improves safety

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- There is currently construction to widen the Interstate 165 northbound ramp into two left turn lanes instead of just one.

The ramp turns onto U.S. 31-W Nashville Road in Bowling Green. While the ramp is under construction, the lane is more narrow than usual and motorists should take caution.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Public Information Officer Wes watt said during peak traffic times vehicles become backed up while turning onto the interstate. He said this project will improve safety and the efficiency of traffic flow as well.

“Adding dual left turn lanes to 31-W relieves that congestion and thus eliminates the safety issue. So the safety improvement is there. Then by moving more vehicles through the intersection we’re also getting people through there faster and hopefully on their way home or on their way to work or wherever they’re going much faster as well,” said Watt.

The construction of the additional lane is expected to take three weeks to complete.
