Prevent pipe freezing like a pro – BGMU gives tips
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With temperatures dropping, it’s that time of the year again to watch out for freezing pipes.
Bowling Green Municipal Utilities says whether you rent or own a home, one cheap hack is a must when cold weather comes around.
BGMU marketing coordinator Shelley Lowe said, “This time of year, we start getting calls about people having issues with water pipes. The most helpful thing you can do, and it’s not a myth, is let your water faucet run at a very small trickle of water. It’s not going to cost much at all – literally pennies.”
BGMU also advises you to keep your garage doors open as well as kitchen and bathroom cabinets. This will let warmer air circle around your plumbing.
They also advise to keep your vents open, and make sure if you’re leaving the house for a while never let the temperature drop below 55 degrees Fahrenheit.
And just in case your water meter freezes, learn where it is and how to shut it off yourself for of no one is available to help immediately. Click here for a link to their video about how to find and turn off your own water meter.
