Portion of U.S. 31-W Bypass to close temporarily for project

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A section of U.S. 31-W Bypass will temporarily close due to a Bowling Green Municipal Utility project.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the U.S. 31-W Bypass will close between U.S. 231 Broadway Avenue and E. 13 Avenue beginning Monday, Aug. 15 at 6 a.m. The roadway is expected to open by the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 19. The work schedule will depend on weather.

A signed detour using E. 13 Avenue, Kenton Street, and Broadway Avenue will be in place. Local access on the U.S. 31-W Bypass will be available as much as possible, however, local traffic may have to use the alleyways for access. Drivers should expect heavy traffic, delays and should seek alternate route if possible. Message boards are being put in place communicating the upcoming closure.

The traffic signal at the U.S 31-W Bypass/U.S. 231 Broadway Avenue intersection will be adjusted to a three-phase signal program and eliminate the U.S. 31-W access toward E. 13 Avenue. This closure is one of a series of closures that will take place in the coming weeks and months by BGMU.

More information on those will be released as a later date.
