Ohio man allegedly drives under the influence, crashes into multiple vehicles in Christian County

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – The Christian County Sheriff’s Office responded to a multiple vehicle collision on Interstate 169 Wednesday.
According to a uniform citation, witnesses told deputies that William Steinhoff, of Frankfort, Ohio, was speeding and driving recklessly. They say his vehicle side-wipped another, causing it to spin out. Steinhoff allegedly continued and rear-ended a semi-truck, struck a guardrail and then the cab of the semi.
Witnesses say Steinhoff got out of the vehicle and fell face-first onto the ground.
During the investigation, deputies located a 2-year-old in the vehicle that was side-swiped.
Deputies say Steinhoff told them “he could not remember what occurred before the collision.”
Steinhoff was transported to Jennie Stuart Health. Staff told deputies that testing indicated that Steinhoff was under the influence of alcohol, according to the uniform citation.
He was arrested and is charged with reckless driving, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and failure to produce an insurance card.
Steinhoff was lodged at the Christian County Detention Center. He is no longer listed as an inmate on the detention center’s website.
