Metcalfe County Board of Education proposes lower tax rate

EDMONTON, Ky. –  The Metcalfe County Board of Education proposed at its August meeting to adopt a lower tax rate for the fiscal year 2026-27.

According to Metcalfe County Schools, the proposal would drop the real estate tax from 52.2 cents per $100 of assessed value to 51.3 cents.

The motor vehicle tax would remain at 56.6, according to the district.

Superintendent Josh Hurt said, “Metcalfe County continues to rank in the bottom quarter statewide for property tax rates. We appreciate the board proposing the lower rate, while also ensuring our ability to provide services to our community.”

The board will vote on the proposal in September.

In addition, the district says in the August meeting, the board approved the FY 2026 Unaudited Annual Financial Report, Balance Sheet and Vendor Report, along with policies and procedures for board-owned vehicles, a contract for speech services, the Code of Acceptable Behavior and Discipline and the District Acknowledgement of Data Security and Breach Notification Best Practices.

The MC Shirt Shop staff were also recognized as District Employees of the Month for August. Alisha Sharp, Debbie Glass and their student workers help outfit the community in Hornet gear, the district says.
