Massey Springs Senior Center has annual carnival and BBQ Alzheimer’s fundraiser

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than 81,000 Kentuckians age 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s disease.

To help support those affected, the Massey Springs Senior Center in Bowling Green hosted its annual carnival and barbecue fundraiser.

The event featured food, games and activities for the community, with proceeds benefiting the Alzheimer’s association. Seniors and their families also had the opportunity to connect with local vendors offering resources, information, and support services.

Organizers say events like this help raise awareness about Alzheimer’s and dementia while encouraging important conversations within the community.

“Dementia and Alzheimer’s is not going away, and so it’s so important to raise awareness, especially in this community because most people are touched by it somehow in their life, rather it’s a loved one that ends up with it or they have it themselves. So, it’s really important to get education out there to have the research done so that we know anyway that we could slow it or prevent it,” said Abby Coursey, executive director of Massey Springs Senior Living.
