Man wanted for murder in death of Ayanna Morgan apprehended

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A wanted man facing a murder charge after the death of a Western Kentucky University student has been captured, police said Saturday.
The Bowling Green Police Department stated on Saturday, Aug. 24 that Malcolm Jones, 31, has been apprehended in Atlanta, Georgia for his involvement in the death of 21-year-old Ayanna Morgan.
Morgan died on July 23, 2023 following a shooting at the Muse apartment complex in Bowling Green.
According to police, officers arrived and found a man attempting to assist Morgan. Police say Morgan was speaking and said “she couldn’t breathe.” Police say Morgan had several wounds from at least one gunshot.
Police say they believe Morgan was in a brief struggle before she was shot. Her death was confirmed by law enforcement by the next morning.
Two other men face charges in relation to Morgan’s death.
Police also say a few days after the shooting, Kobee Lancaster, 26 of Bowling Green, turned himself in and was arrested. He faces a charge of first-degree assault.
A second man, Malik Ade Jones, 31, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in October 2023 in Detroit, Michigan in relation to Morgan’s death.
Malik Jones is charged with murder.
