Logan County residents will have the opportunity to properly dispose of electronic waste

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – Logan County residents will have the opportunity to dispose of old electronics coming up next week.

Residents can drop off end-of-life electronics at the Logan County Recycling Center, Friday Oct. 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Everything except TVs and monitors is free.

The goal is to divert the old electronics piling up in their closets, garages and junk drawers from ending up in landfills.

Almost anything with a battery or plug is accepted: computers, laptops, phones, tablets, game consoles, speakers, cameras, cable boxes, software, cords and wires, small appliances and more.

The fall event builds on Logan County’s spring collection day in May, which brought in more than 4,600 pounds of electronics.

“Most of the electronics have some sort of data in them and so our number one reason for existing is to destroy that data and, you know, to make people feel that they can actually bring their stuff in and it’s not going to be hacked. E-waste never breaks down into methane. It needs oxygen in order to do that and in an oxygen free environment, it just sits there for millennia,” said Matthew Rogers, the CEO of City eWaste.

Collected devices are evaluated for refurbishment or responsibly broken down so their materials can be recovered and reused.
