Logan County Humane Society partners with national charity to raise funds

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – A shelter in Logan County is hosting a fundraiser alongside of a national charity tonight.

Kris Rotunda, with the Jordan’s Way Charity is hosting an online fundraiser with the Logan County Humane Society as a part of his charity tour of all 50 states.

Rotunda is only visiting four shelters in the Commonwealth, chose Logan County as one of them.

“This is my 11th state, in the next 12 months I’ll be at all 50. But, I have 40 states left, or 39, and I go to shelters and do four-hour fund raisers for them but also to bring a lot of awareness to the animals that they have. I really want people to understand, we have to support our local shelters better,” said Rotunda.

The shelter has been in desperate need for funding after COVID-19 caused their other fundraisers to be cancelled.

So, Kathy Garrett, the director of the Logan County Humane Society, was ready to jump on board when she heard about the charity.

“Because we haven’t been able to have any fundraisers, we jumped on this. I mean, there is nothing we can do right now. We can’t have chili suppers. We can’t have any kind of sit down dinners. We can’t have all of the things that we normally do so we really jumped on this,” said Garrett.

The shelter has dozens of cats and kittens as well as quite a few dogs and puppies, and even a pig up for adoption.

The building and kennels are nearly full, and the humane society needs supplies and monetary donations.

“Whenever I am going to a new state, I put a post out there like, “Hey guys, I’m going to Kentucky. Give me some recommendations. I couldn’t tell you. I probably had about 15 to 20 people that submitted referrals. ‘Go to Logan County. Go to Logan County. They need help, especially with exposure, especially with funding,’ So, it was a no brainer. I did my own due diligence but Logan County seemed like a great fit,” said Rotunda.

The fundraiser is taking place Tuesday from 5 to 9 on Facebook live.
