Logan County Fiscal Court passes data center resolution
LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – A one-year moratorium is now in place on potential new data center construction in the unincorporated parts of Logan County.
A resolution, which was passed on Tuesday, July 28 during a fiscal court meeting, includes a 12-month moratorium, which, according to the resolution, is declared “on the construction development, and/or operation of data centers within the unincorporated areas of Logan County for the purpose of studying capacity levels of the local water supply and the effects high-water consumers could have on said water supply, considering the existing industry and the needs of the citizens of Logan County.”
The resolution temporarily pauses data center development in the designated area, providing Logan County leaders with additional time to evaluate possible impacts and to determine how future proposals should be regulated.
The resolution is signed by both Logan County Judge-Executive Phil Baker and a clerk of the Logan County Fiscal Court.
According to the resolution, officials are seeking additional time to look into concerns over infrastructure, utilities and water usage in association with large-scale data centers.
On July 16, Logan County Judge-Executive Phil Baker said the proposed moratorium is intended to give the county time to carefully consider its options rather than rush into decisions.
Baker emphasized that the proposal is not intended to oppose data center development but to ensure any future projects are compatible with the county’s long-term plans.
