Local police stations recognize National Police Week
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Police departments throughout the area are celebrating National Police Week, a week dedicated to honoring their service and those that were lost in the line of duty.
Numerous departments throughout south-central Kentucky are celebrating National Police Week to honor those that were lost in the line of duty and the sacrifices they make each day.
Throughout this week, the Bowling Green Police Department will be wearing black bands over their badges to honor those who were lost in the line of duty, including one of their own who passed away in October of 2006.
Beyond ensuring the community’s safety, the police departments also do plenty of work building relationships with those in the area.
From holding Junior Police Academies to talks with seniors, local law enforcement expresses officers are very involved within their communities.
Doing this can help them build trust within their communities and let citizens know they are there to help at any moment.
“Well in police work, you don’t really believe that you’re going to show up on someone’s best day. A lot of times it is their worst day. And we want to try to make a difference in their life,” said Ronnie Ward, public information officer for the Bowling Green Police Department.
National Police Week will go last until Saturday, May 16. This Thursday, May 14 at 10 a.m., the Scottsville Police Department will be holding an event with the Fraternal Order of Police to honor officers lost in the line of duty.
