Local law enforcement announces Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Local law enforcement agencies are participating in a nationwide event to address public safety and health.

DEA, Drug Task Force, Bowling Green Police, Kentucky State Police, Smiths Grove Police, and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office are partnering in the Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative on Saturday, April 25 from 10 am to 2 pm at multiple locations.

The community is invited to participate in the proper disposal of prescription drugs by bringing them to the following locations:

  • Bowling Green Police Department, 911 Kentucky Street, operated by Drug Task Force and Bowling Green Police
  • Kentucky State Police, Post 3 at 3119 Nashville Road, in Bowling Green
  • Warren County Hazardous Waste Day, 999 Lauren Avery Drive, prescription drug take back operated by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office (Hours of operation 8 am until 1 pm)
  • Smiths Grove City Hall, 146 South Main Street, Smiths Grove, KY, prescription drug take back operated by the Smiths Grove Police Department

According to a media release, drug overdoses killed over 1,410 Kentuckians last year alone and took more than 3 Kentuckians’ lives every day, with opioid-related deaths accounting for 90 percent of all overdose deaths in 2024. The majority of opioid addictions in America start with prescription pills found in medicine cabinets at home.
