LEITCHFIELD, Ky. – A Leitchfield man is facing charges after allegedly threatening his former employer and illegally accessing a company’s computer system to create a fake freight shipment.

According to WNKY News 40 media partner K105, the Leitchfield Police Department arrested 45-year-old Adam Schmidt on Tuesday, charging him with second-degree terroristic threatening, fourth-degree unlawful access to a computer, harassing communications and driving on suspended/revoked operator’s license.

According to an arrest citation, Schmidt was fired from Wessol LLC in July last year. Authorities say he has since scheduled fake freight shipments using the company’s internal computer system.

The citation states these incidents took place over the course of a year.

Authorities say the device used to schedule the shipment was successfully identified as a phone in Leitchfield.

In addition, the citation states the phone was used to call Wessol’s customer service line “at least 10 times” and leave sexually explicit voicemails.

Schmidt is additionally accused of shooting a Wessol company sweatshirt multiple times with a handgun before allegedly circling the bullet holes and writing on the shirt that he left on the company’s dock.

Police say they obtained surveillance video that showed Schmidt exit his vehicle and walk toward the loading dock on Aug. 24.

On Tuesday, police say they conducted a traffic stop on Schmidt on South Main Street in Leitchfield.

During this time, authorities say they searched the vehicle and located a bullet in the center console. Authorities say they also executed a search warrant at Schmidt’s residence, where they located a handgun and phone used to arrange the fake freight shipments and call the company.

Schmidt is charged with second-degree terroristic threatening, among other offenses.

Schmidt was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center but is no longer listed as an inmate.
