Let’s play two at Wrigley

CHICAGO (AP) — The Dodgers play a split doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field after Monday night’s scheduled game was postponed because the forecast called for inclement weather. Both games will be seven innings. Clayton Kershaw and Trevor Bauer will pitch for the Dodgers. Kyle Hendricks is set to face Kershaw in Game 1, but the Cubs had not announced their starter for the second game.

The Dodgers got some bad news Monday. Right-hander Dustin May needs Tommy John surgery, costing the World Series champions one of baseball’s brightest young pitchers for the rest of the season.

Also on today’s schedule:

— The Giants and the Rockies play a pair of seven-inning games in Denver, after their Monday game was rained out.

— Zack Greinke will start for the Astros in the first game of a three-game series against the Yankees in New York. The Astros will be playing in New York for the first time since their sign-stealing scheme became public after the 2019 season. Domingo Germán is on the mound for the Yankees. He’s coming off wins against Cleveland and Baltimore.

— The St. Louis Cardinals have hit a three-run homer in five straight games, matching a major league record. And they’ve won five straight. If the Cardinals are going to extend their streaks, it won’t be easy. Next up, they face two-time Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom, who has given up two earned runs all season.

— Kansas City Royals lefty Mike Minor is 3-and-0 against the Indians in his career heading into tonight’s matchup in Kansas City. Sam Hentges makes his first start of the season for Cleveland.

— Righthander Dylan Cease will start for the White Sox against the Reds instead of lefty Carlos Rodón, to give Rodón extra rest. Rodón, who threw a no-hitter April 14 against Cleveland, underwent Tommy John surgery in 2019. Jeff Hoffman of the Reds faces the White Sox for the first time since 2017 with Colorado.

— Red Sox righthander Nick Pivetta, who’s 3-and-0 and held the Mets to one hit through five scoreless innings in his previous start, will open a three-game homestand against Detroit.

— Now alone atop the NL East with a .500 record, the Washington Nationals open a three-game series at home against the Atlanta Braves.

— The Phillies play the second of four against the visiting Brewers.

— The Pirates are hoping to snap a five-game losing streak in the middle game of a series in San Diego against the Padres.

— Texas Rangers righthander Kyle Gibson returns to Minnesota for his first appearance against his longtime team. He pitched seven seasons in Minnesota before signing with Texas last year.

— Promising prospect Shane McClanahan makes his second career start for Tampa Bay as the Rays continue their road trip in Anaheim.

— Cole Irvin of the Athletics makes his first career start against Toronto. The Blue Jays go with lefty Anthony Kay.

— The Arizona Diamondbacks open a three-game series in Miami against the Marlins.

— Jason Dunn makes his fifth start of the year for the Mariners as they host Baltimore. His only win this season came against the Orioles last month. Jorge López starts for Baltimore.

NBA-SCHEDULE

MIAMI (AP) — The defending Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat continue their playoff push at home against the Mavericks. Miami is in sole possession of sixth place in the conference, which would mean an automatic playoff berth.

In other NBA action:

— The Brooklyn Nets and the Bucks finish a two-game series in Milwaukee. The Bucks are within 2 1/2 games of the Nets in the three-way battle for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Philadelphia is on top, a game in front of the Nets.

— The Golden State Warriors, who currently occupy a Western Conference play-in position for the post-season, play the second of two in New Orleans. The Warriors are four games ahead of 11th-place New Orleans with seven games remaining.

— The Phoenix Suns, still a half-game behind Utah for the best record in the Western Conference, are in Cleveland to play the Cavaliers.

— The Los Angeles Clippers, who’ve lost three in a row but remain tied for third in the Western Conference, are at home against Toronto.

— The Sacramento Kings are in Oklahoma City for the third game in a four-game road trip.

— The Charlotte Hornets take on the Pistons in Detroit.

NHL-SCHEDULE

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes, with a two-point lead in the NHL’s Central Division, again host the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. Carolina eliminated Chicago from postseason contention last night.

In other NHL action:

— After nailing down their fifth-straight playoff berth with a win over the New Jersey Devils last night, the Boston Bruins play one more in New Jersey.

— The New York Islanders and the Buffalo Sabres finish their season series in Buffalo. The Islanders fell to fourth place in the East with last night’s loss to the Sabres.

— The Pittsburgh Penguins, tied atop the East with the Capitals, play the second game of a back-to-back in Philadelphia.

— After clinching a playoff spot with a win over the Canucks last night, the Edmonton Oilers again play at Vancouver.

NFL-JETS-WILLIAMS INJURED

AP source: Foot sidelines Jets’ Quinnen Williams 8-10 weeks

NEW YORK (AP) — A person with knowledge of the injury told The Associated Press that New York Jets standout defensive lineman Quinnen Williams broke a bone in a foot and is expected to have surgery and be sidelined eight to 10 weeks.

Williams was hurt last week during on-field workouts at the team’s facility in Florham Park, New Jersey.

NFL Network first reported Williams’ injury. He is expected to miss organized team activities and minicamp, but should be healthy in time for the start of training camp in late July.
