‘Choked’: Nadal’s opponent flubs set points at French Open

PARIS (AP) — Rafael Nadal has improved his French Open career record to 101-2 as he pursues a 14th championship there and his record-breaking 21st Grand Slam title overall. Nadal also has run his streak of consecutive sets won at Roland Garros to 26. That one was in danger late in the third set of his 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (3) victory over Alexei Popyrin. But Popyrin failed to convert two set points while serving at 5-3 in the third. Top-ranked Novak Djokovic also won in straight sets, while two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova pulled out of the French Open with an injured ankle.
