Rising from sick beds, COVID medics head back to front lines
PARIS (AP) — The coronavirus has infected so many doctors, nurses and other health workers that some are now returning from their sick beds and heading back to the front lines. Health workers who have recovered from COVID-19 hope that they are now armed with some degree of immunity. That armor against the scourge could make them especially valuable assets in the drawn-out battle until a coronavirus vaccine is found. The head of critical care medicine at the Paris hospital that treated Europe’s first fatal case likens the returning medics to wounded soldiers returning to combat. Some recovered medics say they are volunteering for riskier jobs to spare colleagues who have not been infected.
