Player-run U.S. pro volleyball league set to debut in Dallas

DALLAS (AP) — A new professional indoor women’s volleyball is set to start in Dallas. Athletes Unlimited debuted its unique player-run format with a softball league in the Chicago area last August. Players can profit as investors while having a big say in uniforms, media deals and the makeup of teams. Standings are based on individual performances, and the top players are captains who draft players for a new set of teams each week. American Karsta Lowe is among a half-dozen Olympians set to play the five-week season. There won’t be fans because of the pandemic.
