‘I owe them my life’: Boris Johnson hails hospital staff
LONDON (AP) — British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he owes his life to staff at the National Health Service who treated him for COVID-19. In his first public statement since he was moved out of intensive care at St. Thomas’ Hospital in London, Johnson said he “can’t thank them enough.” Government figures later Sunday are expected to show that the U.K. has surpassed 10,000 coronavirus-related deaths. On Saturday, the government reported 917 new coronavirus-related deaths, taking the total number of people who have died in the hospital with the virus to 9,875. Johnson’s Conservative government has come under fire for its slow response to the pandemic, as well as a lack of personal protective equipment for medical workers.
