French infections rise, Spain cracks down on nightclubs
PARIS (AP) — France’s coronavirus infection rate has continued its worrisome upward creep, with health authorities saying each infected person on average contaminates 1.3 other people. In Spain, the region that includes the Spanish city of Barcelona closed all nightclubs and put a curfew on bars as authorities warn that the country that lost over 28,000 lives could be facing the start of a second wave. In the U.K., however, gyms and swimming pools were reopening for the first time in months and Germany sent out a cruise ship with 1,200 passengers to test how to reopen the industry. Elsewhere, nations struggled to contain the disease. India reported 49,000 new cases while South Africa saw more than 13,000.
