Fowler comes up short in bid for US Open as qualifying ends

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Rickie Fowler will have to sit out another major this year. Fowler came up one shot short of having a chance to advance to the U.S. Open from a 36-hole qualifier. The qualifier was pushed over to Tuesday morning because of rain. Fowler, Padraig Harrington, Keegan Bradley and Jason Dufner all finished one shot short. Chez Reavie and Erik van Rooyen led the 16 qualifiers from Ohio. That was the largest of nine 36-hole qualifiers to set the field for next week’s U.S. Open at Torrey Pines. The California sectional also had to finish Tuesday morning.
