EU high official for talks in Poland on rule of law threats
WARSAW, Poland (AP) — The vice president of the European Commission, Vera Jourova, is in Poland for talks with parliament and justice officials. Recently adopted legislation that restricts judges has led to mounting conflict as the government takes steps to control the court system. Jourova said Tuesday she would like to be able to protect Poland’s judges from what she said was a government campaign against them. She said she wanted to directly discuss all the issues with officials to better understand the government’s intentions and jointly find a solution.
