Charlie Krueger, longtime star tackle for 49ers, dies at 84
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The longtime San Francisco 49ers star Charlie Krueger has died. The team said Saturday he died in Clayton, California. The defensive tackle spent his 16-year NFL career with the 49ers. Krueger played for the 49ers from 1958 to 1973, one of the longest tenured players in team history. He was part of teams that won three straight NFC West titles from 1970-72. His No. 70 jersey was retired in 1974 and he joined the club’s Hall of Fame in 2009. He had a reputation as a technician and someone with great strength. The team described him in a statement as a “tough, resilient and smart player who looked out for his teammates.” Charlie Krueger was 84 years old.
