Stocks edged higher Wednesday as gains in technology companies offset losses in industrial companies and other sectors. Investors are turning their attention to this month’s jobs data, which will be out on Friday. The S&P 500 index was up 0.3%. Companies that have gained the attention of a group of highly active online investors _ AMC Entertainment, Blackberry and others _ were climbing once again. AMC jumped another 38% after rising 22.7% the day before, when the movie theater operator announced a stock sale. Energy companies also made solid gains as the price of oil edged higher.
