Stock indexes veer lower; Walmart rises on online sales

Stocks indexes are moving lower Tuesday as investors focus on the possibility for more inflation later this year and economic recovery as the coronavirus pandemic shows signs of easing. Walmart rose 2.2% after the giant retailer’s earnings beat estimates as online shopping grew. AT&T continued a two-day slide after the company announced it would spin off its Warner media assets into a new company with Discovery Communications. Gains by technology and healthcare stocks were offset by a drop in bank and energy companies.
