21 Chinese coal miners trapped by underground flood
BEIJING (AP) — A Chinese news agency says rescuers are trying to reach 21 coal miners who are trapped by an underground flood in the country’s northwest. The Xinhua News Agency says the mine in Hutubi County in the Xinjiang region flooded on Saturday evening. It says eight miners were rescued. China’s coal mines are among the world’s deadliest, regularly suffering explosions and gas leaks despite repeated safety crackdowns.
