House Republicans Voice Support For Trump Election Suit

(NBC News) — With the electoral college set to finalize President-elect Joe Biden’s victory Monday, supporters of President Trump are scrambling to back a long-shot legal challenge.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a suit asking the U.S. Supreme Court to reverse Biden’s victory in four swing states: Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia and Michigan.

“It would essentially mean the end of democracy in the United States of America and that is not hyperbole,” says Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. “That is the undermining of four states in our country.”

Texas wants the high court to bar the four states from casting their electoral college votes until it hears the case.

Legal experts say delaying that vote would be unconstitutional, yet more than 100 House Republicans have now signed on to support the suit, making unfounded allegations that the same election where many of them won reelection was riddled with fraud.

Even some fellow Republicans question the basis for the lawsuit.

“Texas is a big state, but I don’t know exactly why it has a right to tell four other states how to run their elections,” says Tennessee’s Senator Lamar Alexander.
