Hilltopper star turns Olympic hopeful

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Since leaving Bowling Green, former Western Kentucky basketball star A.J. Slaughter has played internationally for various club teams in Italy, France, Greece and Spain.

The Louisville native has gained dual citizenship in the U.S. and Poland and has been allowed to compete for the Polish national basketball team for the past six years.  But this summer came with Olympic aspirations.

After placing 8th in the FIBA World Cup two years ago, Slaughter and company earned a spot in the Olympic qualifying tournament which began earlier this week. The journey to this moment and the Olympic goals that came with it, were something Slaughter never truly imagined happening.

After losing earlier this week to Slovenia and Dallas Mavericks star Luka Dončić, Poland and Slaughter have one more chance at an Olympic spot, Saturday morning against Lithuania.
