Gov. Beshear requests update on Sen. McConnell’s health

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) — As concerns continue to grow regarding U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell’s health and his ability to serve, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has sent a letter to the senator’s office requesting an update.
Limited information has been shared from Sen. McConnell’s official office since he was admitted to the hospital on June 14.
“Over the last several weeks, Kentuckians have grown increasingly concerned about the health and well-being of Sen. McConnell. As Governor – and a fellow public official who understands the commitment we’ve made to the people we serve – I am requesting the Senator provide an update on his current health status,” said Gov. Beshear. “Allowing speculation to continue in the media is not fair to the Senator or to Kentuckians, and my hope is that this provides him the opportunity to share the information in a transparent manner, direct from the source. I wish him a safe and speedy recovery.”
Beshear stated an increase in public inquiries to his office regarding the senator’s health as the reason for the letter. Instead of adding to more public speculation, Beshear is reaching out directly to Sen. McConnell.
The governor’s letter reads in part “as public officeholders, we have made a commitment to our constituents to do our best to represent them and to always be transparent. I believe this requires clear communication about one’s ability to serve.“
Beshear ended the letter by wishing the Senator a speedy recovery.
