First responders on scene of reported apartment collapse in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Lexington fire crews are responding to a scene at an apartment building in the 1800 block of Augusta Drive in Lexington on Friday.

LEX 18 reports it has captured an image of what appears to be the side of the building collapsed.

According to LEX 18, emergency crews responded to an apartment complex, where a ladder truck was extended to a second-floor walkway.

LEX 18 further states Battalion Chief Derek Roberts with the Lexington Fire Department says crews dispatched at 11:07 a.m. for a report of a collapse rescue. Roberts reportedly stated they arrived on scene to a third floor concrete patio that fell on the second floor.

Crews then quickly rescued five occupants with ladders on the backside of the apartments.

Fire crews, along with Lexington Animal Control, removed three dogs and two cats from the buildings.

According to LEX 18, preliminary estimates are that 18 people from 12 units will be displaced.
