FRANKLIN, Ky. – Firefighters and community members worked together on scene Tuesday to battle a reported field fire.

According to Franklin-Simpson Fire Rescue, arriving units located a field of corn that had been cut that was burning rapidly. Units immediately requested additional resources.

Crews say the Auburn City Fire Department and Auburn Rural Fire Department additionally responded with brush trucks and water supply trucks.

Multiple neighbors also assisted with equipment, including Konow Farms, which provided a tractor and disc, along with another neighbor, who brought a tractor with a box blade, according to Franklin-Simpson Fire.

Three people from Hickman Farms provided valuable help in moving hose lines, crews say. Southern States assisted with extinguishing the fire using their pickup truck and hoses from their water tank, according to the agency.

In total, the agency says nearly 120 acres of the field and nearly 1 acre of woodlands burned.

The fire started on Colson Orchard Road before reaching Highway 100, crews say.

Additional aid was provided by the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office and multiple community members.
