Domestic violence awareness – it happens to men too

Henninger said in our time together that when the victim is male, we as a society tend
to always minimize the abuse saying things like “she couldn’t have hit you that hard.” (in terms
of cis-gender relationships) but “it doesn’t matter how hard, it’s that you got hit at all.”

Henninger said it’s important that we all remind ourselves regardless of
appearance, occupation, location or anything else, everyone can suffer from the effects of
domestic violence. According to Henninger, 1 in 4 men are victims of domestic violence and 7%
to 10% of calls to the BRASS crisis line come from men in committed relationships.
