Christian Family Radio celebrates 40 years with ribbon cutting
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) — Christian Family Radio, known by its call letters WCVK, marked a major milestone Tuesday morning with a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating 40 years on the air.
Community members, staff and supporters gathered to honor the station’s impact across south-central Kentucky since it first signed on April 23, 1986. What began as a small, faith-based radio effort has grown into a regional network, reaching listeners in multiple communities and online.
Executive director Bridget Kehrt-Groce reflected on the station’s legacy, saying its programming has influenced generations through music and messaging centered on faith and encouragement.
“So we signed on the air April 23rd. That means you all, we have literally raised a generation on this kind of music,” Kehrt-Groce said. “Something that stands out that should inspire. It should challenge your faith. It should encourage you that there are amazing people under this tent.”
Kehrt-Groce also emphasized the station’s connection to the community, crediting listeners and supporters for its longevity.
“God has trusted CFR with the air, and we want to occupy it with the very best,” she said.
Leaders say Christian Family Radio has expanded over the years to serve areas including Owensboro and Glasgow, while also offering online streaming to reach a broader audience.
Organizers say the anniversary celebration is not only a reflection on the past four decades, but also a commitment to continue serving the community through faith-based programming for years to come.
