CDC declares cyclospora outbreak involving lettuce over, FDA continues investigation

KENTUCKY – A weeks-long cyclospora outbreak involving iceberg lettuce has been declared over by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, health officials announced Friday.

On Sept. 11, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration confirmed the CDC declared the outbreak ended, which involved Taylor Farms-related products.

According to the FDA, on July 17, Taylor Farms de Mexico voluntarily removed all iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico from the United States market. According to health officials, the best-by dates for the recalled lettuce have passed, and the product should no longer be available in stores and restaurants.

“While the outbreak is over, FDA continues the outbreak investigation of Cyclospora infections linked to iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico and recalled by Taylor Farms de Mexico. FDA will continue to collaborate with CDC as well as state and local partners as necessary,” the FDA stated on its website.
