Butler County man accused of burglary after attempting to steal dogs

OHIO COUNTY, Ky. – A Butler County man is facing charges after allegedly attempting to steal dogs to repay an unknown debt.
According to a uniform citation, Ohio County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a trespassing complaint at Orville Blaize Estate at 285 State Route 505 South in Horse Branch Monday afternoon.
Upon arriving at the scene, a witness told deputies that he discovered Kenneth Brooks, of Morgantown, hiding in a thicket with bolt cutters.
The witness told deputies that the property had been burglarized several times over the prior weeks.
Deputies say Brooks told them that two unidentified men had allegedly picked him up at his residence in Butler County and dropped him off at the estate to steal dogs because “he owed them.”
Brooks told the deputies he did not locate dogs at the estate.
Following the investigation, Brooks was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking or disposition of others (attempt) and possession of burglary tools.
Brooks was lodged at the Ohio County Detention Center. He has since been released.
The investigation is ongoing.
