Burn ban issued in Simpson County

SIMPSON COUNTY, Ky. – A burn ban is now active in Simpson County as hot temperatures and dry conditions persist.

According to an executive order by Simpson County Judge Executive Mason Barnes, the ban is being ordered due to excessive dryness and fire hazardous conditions.

The document states this is a no outside burn order, including the lighting of fireworks and burning of any material outdoors.

In addition, the executive order states a lack of rain in recent weeks poses an increased risk of damage from wildfires caused by open burning or fireworks.

The burn ban is effective immediately on Sept. 2, according to the document.

The ban will be lifted by order after sufficient rainfall to abate hazardous conditions, according to the executive order.

“Kentucky Revised Statutes provides for penalities for violations of not less than $50 nor more than $500” for violations of the ban, according to the order.
