Bowling Green man charged with DUI after collision near WKU

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Western Kentucky University police say a man is facing multiple charges, including operating a motor vehicle under the influence.
According to a uniform citation, police say they were patrolling Friday night around 11:36 p.m. along Normal Street and Regents Drive.
Police say they saw a subject, identified as 20-year old Zachary P. Upright of Bowling Green, Kentucky, standing near two vehicles. Both vehicles had been involved in a collision on Normal Street at the intersection of the Minton Hall lot stop sign, police say.
The uniform citation states Upright stated he had rear ended the other vehicle in the collision.
Police say the other person involved in the wreck stated Upright drove around her vehicle and left the scene, traveling south on Normal Street. According to police, Upright stopped once the other driver followed him and told him to stop.
Police say upon contact with Upright, he showed slurred speech, was stumbling and had the odor of alcohol coming from his breath.
Police also say Upright engaged in conduct that “created substantial danger or physical injury to another person.”
Upright was transported to the Warren County Detention Center and Medical Center at Bowling Green for a blood draw after a search warrant was obtained.
Upright is charged with leaving the scene of an accident – failure to render aid or assistance, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, first offense (aggravating circumstances), first-degree criminal mischief and second-degree wanton endangerment.
