Bowling Green High School holds Practical Living Skills day for students
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Bowling Green High School gave students an opportunity to learn new things outside of the core curriculum Wednesday, April 22 with their Practical Living Skills day.
Students got to spend the day learning and practicing skills, such as financial literacy, car maintenance, health and safety practice and even learning how to tie a tie.
The Bowling Green Police Department also spoke to students, informing them on what to do if they ever find themselves in a car crash and need to know what to present to an officer, along with what each icon means on a cars dashboard.
This was one of the many flex days the school has throughout the year, and this one was used to teach students skills as they get closer to entering the real world.
“When people ask me what I do for a living, I tell them I’m a high school principal. And a lot of times the reaction I’ll get is, ‘why don’t you teach them this or that or the other thing in high school?’ And the idea for flex days was kind of born out of that and said, ‘maybe we can teach some other things that kids need to know, not just math, science, social studies, and English’,” said Kyle McGraw, principal at Bowling Green High.
The school has done a flex day like this in the past when the now upperclassman were freshman and sophomores. Due to the success of the event, the school decided to bring it back so the kids could learn even more practical living skills as some of them prepare to enter adulthood, college and the workforce.
With this being the final flex day of the year, McGraw and the faculty at Bowling Green High will begin preparing the events for the next school year this summer.
