Bowling Green Fire Department awarded $1.27 million grant to hire new firefighters

The Bowling Green Fire Department is receiving a federal grant for over $1.2 million dollars.

Congressman Brett Guthrie’s office made the announcement through a news release.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Staffing for Emergency Response Program, also known as SAFER, will award $1.27 million to the department to hire additional firefighters.

Bowling Green Mayor Bruce Wilkerson says the money should cover the salaries and benefits for nine new firefighters over a three year period.
