BGFD holds hazmat training

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The Bowling Green Fire Department teamed up with some other local agencies to practice hazmat training off Nashville Road on Friday.

Firefighters practiced a scenario where canisters of flammable equipment were leaking near canisters of a liquid that, when mixed, would combust.

Obviously, in the training, the chemicals were not actually hazardous. The firefighters then had to go through a decontamination chamber.

Katie McKee, the spokeswoman for the fire department said practicing alongside other agencies for a scenario including hazardous waste is important in order to work together successfully in a real hazard.

The training will continue into Saturday as the fire department’s shift change.
