Adaptive water sports program to start soon

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Two Parks and Recreation departments are introducing a new adaptive water sports program this summer.

The City of Bowling Green and Warren County Parks and Recreation departments have teamed up to offer this inclusive program to those with intellectual or physical disabilities. It’s the first time this type of program has been offered in Warren county.

They offer activities in the water from kayaking to water wheeling to bellyaking, all at the access point at Drakes Creek at Phil Moore Park.

Madison Duncan is partially disabled and not only works for the parks and rec department, but also partakes in the adaptive water sports. She explains why she loves the program.

“I love it because I have family that gets out and kayaks and now I know that if I ever want to I have stuff I can do and I can go with them, and I’ve always been competitive so this just kinda drives that competitive edge,” said Duncan.

The program will start on July 24 and run through September 25 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. To sign up, you can call the Phil Moore Park office at 270-843-6665.
