Officials encourage safe driving during storms

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With storms brewing, local law enforcement is talking about how to stay safe while driving.

Tips and tricks of the road often involve slowing down and paying attention to driving, and severe weather is no different.

Kentucky State Trooper Daniel Priddy says rain can actually increase the time in takes to stop your vehicle by two.

That means, if you are traveling at 60 miles per hour, your typical stopping distance would be 180 feet, but in the rain, it could be up to 360 feet.

Priddy also says having your headlights on and wind shield wipers going will increase your visibility and can keep you safer.

He encourages people not to drive if they don’t have to during severe weather.
