Breast clinic open in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Med Center Health is announcing the opening of their new Breast Clinic in Bowling Green.
This clinic is a huge addition to the area because in addition to appointments, the clinic also offers walk-in hours.
This is a game-changer for those who previously had to drive down to Nashville for breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Dr. Diego Cabrera, a hematologist and oncologist with Med Center Health says this can and will likely save many lives.
Cabrera says when it comes to cancer, time is of the essence, and previously, getting diagnosed and starting treatment has taken too long and cancer spread before treatment could begin in some instances.
“Our best tool to fight breast cancer is early detection, hands down, 100%. Mammograms are going to be your best tool. Now, depending on the organization you look at, there’s going to be some recommendations. Some start at 40, 45, some 50 years of age they start, some even younger depending on their own personal risk,” said Cabrera.
Cabrera says it is important to periodically check yourself for strange lumps in the breast or armpit area but says mammograms can detect cancer much sooner than a self-examination.
It is also important to note that men can also get breast cancer, although it is rarer.
