Glasgow Police Department create safe spot for Internet exchanges

GLASGOW, Ky. – The Glasgow Police Department designated two of their parking spots toward Internet purchase exchanges. The well-lit meet up spots have constant video surveillance as well as police officers on call 24/7 a few feet away. This is the only safe exchange location here in Barren County.

Major Terry Flatt heard one of his sergeants talking about implementing the safe spot, and he was all for setting it in motion.

“Now, you can at least feel a little bit more comfortable picking up the item here in the Glasgow Police Department parking lot and feel a little bit safer about it,” said Flatt.

Sergeant Wesley Hicks said he hopes this meet up spot will bring buyers and sellers both alike some peace of mind.

“The police department obviously- is probably- the the safest place to meet anybody that you don’t know buying anything,” said Hicks. “If something criminal was to happen, we need to look into that, and the surveillance would be some things that you wouldn’t have to worry about….You’ve got all kinds of police traffic coming in and out that would make the person that’s meeting somebody feel more comfortable, or a female by there self that’s worrisome of not meeting a stranger.”

The Glasgow Police Department is located at 101 Pin Oak Ln, Glasgow, KY 42141.
