Kentucky lawmaker agrees to 45-day license suspension

LONDON, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky lawmaker has agreed to a 45-day suspension of his license to drive for declining to take a blood test in a drunken-driving investigation. Defense attorney Conrad Cessna says Rep. Derek Lewis agreed to the sanction to “put this entire case to bed.” Lewis was arrested and charged with drunken driving shortly after the 2020 General Assembly session had adjourned. A jury recently acquitted Lewis. Prosecutor Bruce Bentley says even when a person is acquitted of impaired driving, state law allows prosecutors to seek a license suspension if the person refused to take a test to measure impairment.
