Tottenham, Roma to hunt new European title on road to Tirana

GENEVA (AP) — Tottenham and Roma are starting on the road to Tirana. The two clubs that recently fired and hired Jose Mourinho are the highest-ranked entries in the list being finalized this week for the inaugural Europa Conference League. That’s the new third-tier European club competition kicking off in July. The first winner will be crowned next May at the new 22,500-seat national stadium in Albania. It’s not a glamorous or lucrative option for clubs used to the Champions League. But the priority is to help lower-ranked nations and ensure some of their clubs stay involved in Europe beyond August.
