Kentucky State Police raise money for the Special Olympics, stop by WNKY to help
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Kentucky State Police will spend this week hosting Cover the Cruiser to raise funding for the state’s Special Olympians.
For $1 people can write their names or others’ names on a police car and see their names posted across state cruisers.
The annual event raises funds for Special Olympics Kentucky. Special Olympics is the world’s largest program where children and adults who have special needs can train and compete in sports. State police said 11,300 athletes participate in the Kentucky Special Olympics each year.
In past years, state police participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run to raise money for the cause. Due to COVID-19 troopers brainstormed outside the box to make this year’s different fundraiser a success.
Through the rest of this week, state troopers will place the pieces of paper on cruisers in hopes of covering entire cars.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Kentucky State Police will set up their cruisers in the WNKY parking lot at 1018 Chestnut Street and FiveStar convenience store at 7288 Louisville Road, both here in Bowling Green.
